    What is the course about?

    You will learn how to achieve a professional finish through making fabric samples of various methods for seams, pockets, facings and hems. You will learn how to read basic patterns so you can cut out basic samples. Skills can also be developed through practising on a basic top sample for which the tutor will supply the pattern.

    What is the purpose of the course?

    In this course you will learn how to interpret basic patterns and cut out simple garments. Practice on a basic top sample, which the tutor will provide the pattern for, can also help enhance skills. You will create various types of seams, facins and hems with a professional finish.

    What does this class cover?

    The instructor will walk you through how to operate a sewing machine and basic sewing techniques for constructing tops with individual usage of a sewing machine. Simple, zigzag, and French seams will be used. Darts, pockets, and hems will also be produced as examples. We’ll also talk about pressing and finishing. Cutting, stitching, and completing a top will provide you with valuable practice.

    What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

    This course is designed for total beginners who want to learn how to make garments. There is no requirement for prior experience. This is an introductory course that teaches students the fundamental sewing machine skills and procedures for sewing a simple top. If you’re a complete beginner (you’ve never used a sewing machine or done any hand stitching), you might want to start with the “INTRO TO SEWING MACHINE” During the class, you will actively participate with the process and elaboration of the project. You should be able to work with numbers to make simple calculations.

    Will there be any work outside the class?

    This is a workshop practice where you will give guidance and instructions. Some tasks may need to be undertaken at home in order to be completed.

    Is there anything I need to buy?

    Bring a notebook, a pen or pencil, and a work bag with you and your sewing equipment such as scissors, pins, and a tape measure, chalk, ruler, etc. You may need cotton fabric and other items to accomplish your project. You will be told that during the first class.

    What should I bring to the class?

    This is an all day class, you can bring your own food/drink to have on site or take time to eat at a nearby place. One hour break will be allocated in the afternoon and 10 min. Between sessions.
